Geology of Tasmania

This map is derived from the 1:250,000 scale digital geology of Tasmania. Rock units have been grouped and boundaries have been generalised for presentation at 1:500,000 scale.

Stratotectonic Elements Map

This map, produced in 1995, incorporates most of the data from the 1:250,000 scale digital geological coverage of Tasmania, but with the geology presented in a more synthesised format than in the standard 1:500,000 scale coverage. Also depicted are major faults and fold trends, major gravity and magnetic lineaments, and the interpreted 2 km depth contour of Devonian granites. The intent is to highlight the main stratotectonic elements (at surface and concealed) of Tasmania.

Mineral Deposits and Metallogenic Map of Tasmania

This map, produced in 2017, shows the major mineral occurrences in Tasmania, classified by commodity, age and style of mineralisation, overlain on a simplified geological map and with interpreted depth contours for the Devonian-Carboniferous granites, derived from geophysical data.

Tasmanian Mining Infrastructure

This map, which is regularly updated, shows major mining and mineral processing operations in Tasmania and infrastructure such as railways, power stations and transmission lines.

Geophysics

Maps derived from compliations of gravity, airborne magnetic and gamma radiometric data acquired in Tasmania.
