The latest version of the 3-D Geological Model of Tasmania is now available from Mineral Resources Tasmania. This model results from a co-operative project between MRT, the Predictive Mineral Discovery Cooperative Research Centre, Geoinformatics Exploration Australia Pty Ltd, and Geoscience Australia. Primarily available as a FracSIS database, the model includes:
- Geological cross-sections covering the whole of Tasmania;
- 3-D surfaces and volumes of major faults and geological units;
- Images and datasets of airborne geophysics and derived Worms;
- Results of Geoscience Australia seismic surveys in Tasmania;
- MRT point geological datasets, e.g. Mineral Deposits, Stream Sediment Geochemistry;
- Company datasets including 3-D ore shells for major mines, and soil geochemistry images;
- CODES Volcanic Facies and Alteration Facies analysis of the Mt Read Volcanics;
- Report including geological background, model development, and prospectivity analysis;
- Many other datasets.
The database is available on CD from MRT for cost of transfer. Parts of the database are also available on request in Vulcan, GoCAD and VRML formats.

The software needed to run the FracSIS version of the model database is available from Fractal Technologies, who can also supply the database. Three versions of the software are available:
- Reader (with or without the Tasmanian database);
- Explorer (views data, output as movies, VRML, scaled images etc., multi-user);
- Professional (does all the above plus manages the database - import/export - and has CAD tools, multi-user)
