Exploration Licence boundaries are based upon MGA coordinates (Zone 55G), geographical features (e.g. coast) and/or administrative boundaries (e.g. National Parks).
Mining Leases Mining lease boundaries are based upon either cadastral or administrative boundaries, geographical features or MGA coordinates (Zone 55G) and are derived from the original mining lease applications and accompanying plans.
Exploration Release Areas Areas relinquished from exploration licences are advertised as Exploration Release Areas (ERAs), with a moratorium period of at least two months to allow potential applicants to view relevant data and reports before making an application for the area. Applications are received from an advertised opening date and those applications received during the first five working days are treated as simultaneous and have priority over later applications. More information on the ERA process can be viewed.
Historical Mineral Tenements Historical Exploration Licence data is available on request in shapefile* format. There is no planned capture program for historic mining lease data.
