Construction of Water Bores and WellsConstruction of Water Bores and Wells

Upon completion of the construction of a well or water bore, the person undertaking the construction must use a standard form to advise MRT of the location of the well or bore, rest (standing) water level after completion, installation of casing, the depth at which the water was struck, and the results of pumping and/or bore yield tests. Information on "dry" wells or bores is also required. Copies of any water analysis reports in relation to the well or bore must also be provided.

Driller's forms should be filled in during or immediately after the drilling activity and the original should be sent to Mineral Resources Tasmania (MRT) as soon as practicable. Additional copies of the Groundwater Drilling Results Log Book can be ordered from Mineral Resources Tasmania. A sample copy can be downloaded.

On occasions and by advance notice, the person constructing the well or bore may be required to provide samples of drill cuttings, water or other specified items.

Boreholes should be constructed in accordance with the publication Minimum Construction Requirements for Water Bores in Australia. This is available for downloading on the Queensland NRM website.
