Mineral deposits are concentrations of minerals and geological materials of economic or potentially economic importance (this includes mines, quarries and related sites.)

Searching the Deposits database

The Mineral Resources Tasmania deposits database stores information on all known Tasmanian mineral deposits and mineral occurrences of economic interest. This database is used to assist mineral exploration and effective land management in areas of strategic importance to future exploration and to maximise the possibility of new mineral discoveries.

Metallic minerals, industrial minerals, fuel minerals and construction materials are all included. The deposits database holds information on the deposit name, location, commodities, ore reserves, geological environment, bibliographic references and other data. Approximately 6000 occurrences are recorded, ranging from major operating mines to minor prospects and abandoned quarries. The database can be searched either textually or spatially, as described below:

Deposits text-based search
This facility allows you to search on specified attributes of a mineral occurrence. Multiple entries may be made in most fields using lookup tables, and may include various combinations of search criteria. Geographic searching is enabled by
Deposits map-based search
By utilising this tool you will be able to select any region within Tasmania and view all deposits in this specified area that MRT holds information for. Functions include the ability to zoom in and out as well as the ability to query each deposit for further information. The screen display and export function only return small parts of the data available.
