Mineral categories available for application under the ERA:
Category 1 - Metallic Minerals and Atomic Substances and any other mineral category that may be available within the defined area.
This ERA arises from the relinquishment of EL3/2005 McKimmie Creek by Bass Metals Limited and Geoinformatics Exploration Tasmania Proprietary Limited. The area lies north of the Pieman Road 22 km west of Tullah, and is prospective for replacement and skarn mineralisation.
The eastern part of the ERA is underlain by Cambrian sedimentary rocks adjacent to the Rosebery Fault, including distal equivalents and possible correlates of the Mt Read Volcanics. Cambro–Ordovician Owen Group cover crops out to the east and to the west are Proterozoic Oonah Formation turbidites, which in the Zeehan area host Devonian vein, skarn and replacement-tin deposits.
The western part of the ERA is the core of the Huskisson Syncline, comprising Eldon Group sandstone and shale.
The ERA lies close to the southeast margin of the Meredith Granite, providing potential for stratabound replacement mineralisation, and is within 10 km of the Renison Bell and Rosebery mines. The eastern part of the ERA hosts the Lynch Creek and Just-In-Time Pb prospects/workings.
Modern exploration began in 1963 and amassed a wide range of geochemical and geophysical surveys in the eastern part of the ERA. Only limited ground magnetic and geochemical surveys have been added since 1988. The western part has been subject to very little mineral exploration.
Regional geological mapping at 1:25 000 scale and aeromagnetics and radiometrics are available from MRT. Access to the ERA is via 4WD track in the east but there is no tracked access to the western part.
