Summary
This Category 1 ERA results from EL8/2015 (Grassy Hill) previously held by SRG Partners Pty Ltd.
ERA 1078 covers 110sq. km, located 5km NW of the township of Ouse in the Central Highland Municipality. The area can be accessed by Lyell Highway and numerous public and private roads.
Geology of the ERA comprises Triassic Upper Parmeener Group non-marine sedimentary rocks, Jurassic dolerites, Cenozoic sediments and Cenozoic basalt flows. Bauxite in the Ouse district is associated with the weathering and decomposition mainly of Jurassic dolerite, occurring as lenticular accumulations of earthly, granular, pisolitic and nodular bauxite.
The Tasmanian Mines Department and the Bureau of Mineral Resources conducted studies during the 1940’s which comprised mapping, sinking short shafts, surface sampling, digging of shallow pits and percussion drilling which identified areas of near-surface bauxite accumulations. Significant prospects within the ERA area include the Gladfield, Lachlan Vale and Lentwardine areas, and areas of potential were recognised at Father of marshes and Cleveland Estate.
The area contained within the ERA has had virtually no modern exploration and remains highly prospective for further discoveries of bauxite.
All available information from the 1940s ere exploration (several unpublished report, plans and digital data) have been compiled and are available at TCR 17_7848, ERA 1078 Cockatoo Ridge Data Package.

The exploration release system offers newly available ground at a nominated date, at least two months after expiry, revocation or surrender of a licence. During that time the area is unavailable for application.
After the end of the moratorium period applications may be lodged, for Exploration Licences or Mining Leases, by courier, registered mail or in person for the whole or part of the ERA. Applications for ERA1078 may be made on 19/02/2018 and up to four working days thereafter. All applications received during this five day period will be treated as simultaneous and have equal priority.
Applications with equal priority will be considered and decided on merit. If no applications are received during the five day application period the area becomes open ground for 'over the counter' application.
