Explorer Support Package Announced for Exploration Licence Holders

In early June the Explorer Support Package was launched. The package is designed to assist explorers in maintaining their tenements in good standing in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Key Elements of the Explorer Support Package are:

• Suspension of rental payments for exploration licences for the 6 months from 1 June 2020;
• Applications for exemption from licence work and expenditure conditions will be granted to all those who apply, and no fees will be charged for these applications.Applications for periods of up to six months will be granted without review and will be back-dated to commence on 1 May 2020, however applications for longer periods will be assessed under normal processes;
• Waiving of application fees for the surrender or extension of term of exploration licences for six months from 1 June 2020.

These measures are in addition to the six-month extension to Exploration Drilling Grant Initiative (EDGI) Round 3 completion dates, the opening of EDGI Round 4 for applications, and a freeze on government fee increases for the 2020/21 financial year.
