Web Feature Service

Mineral Resources Tasmania has an Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) compliant web map service  for connecting to publicly available spatial data. Web Feature Services (WFS) use specified standards and allow web map information to be requested using URLs as downloadable datasets or displayed in desktop applications. The capabilities link below provides information on how to access individual data layers and can be copied and pasted into a desktop application. This service has been tested successfully with ArcGIS 9.2 Build 1324 and MapInfo 9.0.2.

Currently MRT are adding datasets as they become publicly available as simple feature types (prefixed by mrtwfs). The development of datasets in OGC compliant (GML) application schemas (and Portrayal) is ongoing and is being facilitated through the Government Geoscience Information Committee (GGIC).
