Geochronology of Proterozoic rocks in NW Tasmania

Published:
Updated:

At the recent Australian Earth Science Convention (AESC) in Perth WA, Dr Sheree Armistead presented early results from a joint University of Tasmania and Geoscience Australia project, supported by MRT, on dating of mineralisation in the Proterozoic rocks of NW Tasmania. Of most interest is a new age of 1295 Ma for the small Strickland prospect in the Rocky Cape Group, which is very similar to the age of the SEDEX mineralisation in the Belt Purcell of the USA.

The Project is funded through the Commonwealth Government’s $125 million Exploring For The Future initiative.
