Research dates submarine volcanic succession at Kennaook/Cape Grim

MRT has supported a study, published in the Australian Journal of Earth Sciences by J. M. Fox and others from the University of Tasmania, that includes the first 40Ar/39Ar geochronology for the Kennaook/Cape Grim volcanic succession. Furthermore, Little Trefoil Basalt has been re-interpreted from a subaerial extrusive unit to a submarine intrusive unit, and the stratigraphy of the Kennaook/Cape Grim volcanic succession has been revised.

The paper, titled: Revised stratigraphy and first geochronology of the Miocene submarine volcanic succession at Kennaook/Cape Grim, northwestern Tasmania, may be downloaded here.
