Geological Survey Field Season Review 2026
Mineral Resources Tasmania's Geological Survey Branch has completed a successful 2025-26 field season, delivering significant new geological insights across western Tasmania, Flinders Island, the Northern Tyennan region, Mole Creek, and the Western Tiers. Through extensive field mapping and compilation programs, the survey has enhanced its understanding of several strategically important regions while generating valuable new data to support mineral exploration, critical minerals assessment, infrastructure planning, and natural resource management.
Key achievements included:
- the completion of field mapping on the Interview 1:25 000 map sheet,
- substantial progress on the Donaldson mapping program, and
- major advances in geological knowledge on Flinders Island, one of Tasmania's least-studied geological regions.
Geological Survey Branch staff also completed or advanced several new geological map sheets across northern Tasmania (Borradaile and Lake MacKenzie), contributing to an expanding suite of high-quality geoscientific datasets for the state.
